Sleepovers at the LUMC

Millie has chemo every three weeks and then has to stay in the hospital for four days during the chemo. This means sleeping in the hospital three nights in a row. As everyone who knows Millie will know she HATES being alone. As she is under 18 so classed as a minor by law she can have a guardian with her at all times. This is how we ended up having sleepovers in the LUMC.

This is the third round we have stayed  in the hospital together with Millie. Me (Martha) and mum (mostly) alternated staying in the hospital.

This is my second night this weekend I am staying in the hospital and thought I would tell you a bit about how it is.
First of all it’s kind of weird to stay in a hospital when you’re not ill. The beds do have an awesome remote that makes the bed go up and down (wish I had one at home!) unfortunately they are not the comfiest of beds.
Before we go to sleep we watch some Friends as Millie loves the series and has started watching it from the beginning again. Millie goes to sleep nice and early as she is and always has been a brilliant sleeper, and you know what they say you get better faster when you sleep! After Millie has gone to sleep I either read a book, or play a game on my laptop/tablet.
During the night Millie wakes me up to go to the toilet not once but probably about 5/6 times depending on how much fluid she had. The up side is you get sneaky snuggles as she gets up out of bed!

My favourite part is holding her hand as she goes to sleep, every now and again she squeezes it to check I’m still here!

  1. Martha Jane (cool name esp the middle bit ;)!) your little sis is a lucky girl to have you there for her so much at the moment especially when you are studying and working so hard as well. I know you wouldn’t have it any other way though as you are also a carrier of the family ‘clucking’ gene! You’re doing an amazing job being there for Mum, Millie and the rest of the family therefore I shall come visiting in Summer with banana cake and chocolate pie!!! xx

  2. You all are so lovely and caring with each other! I wish I had a sister like you Martha (I hope my sisters never read that- lol). Love is the best medicine ever! luck Millie. 🙂
