Grumpy Millie!

Time flies when you’re having chemo?? Not a sentence I thought I would ever write, but nonetheless here we are and I have just seen the last bag of the six big VIDE chemo treatments go through the IV. Flushing until morning, then waiting for an MRI and then home….

01aed0d6aac7556be98abccd702126e37e7eeea8daIt’s been a rather stressful chemo weekend. Despite the amazing positivity Millie had before coming in for her last ‘heavy’ chemo (before the ‘light’ ones start?!). We experienced a rather abrupt reception on Friday with a short sharp message: ‘Hello Millie, we’re very busy, you have to share a room and there’s not enough room for anyone to stay with you. Now I will access your port-a-cath’.

Erm, I don’t think so says Millie. I’m going home! No one staying with me, I DON’T THINK SO!!!

To cut a long and draining morning’s story short, we stayed with the promise of a move to a different room later in the day which the lovely late shift nurses organised for us and installed a still grumpy Millie and oma in their own room.

To add to the stress of the day, the orthopaedic surgeon finally turned up to tell us the plan for after this chemo. I’ve been trying to get hold of this elusive chap since the last treatment when the registrar told us the plan had changed and we would be informed asap. Three weeks later…
Thankfully the surgeon is lovely, stayed with us for a long time and explained everything to Millie in great detail. In short – he has a fabulous plan for a bionic leg for Millie, there are lots of options depending on the progress after this treatment and the exact design will be determined after the MRI on monday.
Most importantly, he’s going to get Gordon gone.
Second most important point, he’s promised someone can stay with Millie on the orthopaedic unit!

So we’re looking at a VERY busy schedule. 6 weeks of daily radiotherapy with 2 cycles of ‘light’ chemo. 4-6 weeks of rest with 1 chemo cycle. Then the operation to remove the tumour and reconstruct Millie’s leg.
Then the remaining 5 cycles of chemo.

No problem!

We’re good at chemo now, we’ve got it down to a fine art. We’re like a well-oiled machine and time is flying!

They’re working with a ‘wonderkind’ as Millie has declared herself to be! She is amazing, strong, determined and extremely positive..

..as long as you NEVER suggest she stays here on her own…!

  2. Hi Millie,

Lots of love and happy thoughts from us all in Yorkshire. Need any cake? Or chocolate?

The post takes forever, but we can arrange deliveries of goodies in Delft. Have a good week,

    Love
