Gerald Get Well Card

We are only just setting out on this long and difficult journey but we have already been helped by so many people.
I would like to use this page to say a massive thankyou for everything everyone has done to date and everything yet to come.

It’s a long & dynamic list….

I will start with Dr. Kraan, the orthopaedic surgeon at the Reinier de Graaf Hospital in Delft who, after a horrendous catalogue of errors, finally facilitated a diagnosis. He went the extra mile, came in on his day off to see us and organised emergency testing as fast as possible and in collaboration with the LUMC. He was professional and empathetic and gave us his personal number for any support or questions we may need or have. As a medical professional, one can easily recognise excellent care above and beyond the norm. I shall forever be grateful for his efficient and caring handling of the situation he was presented with.

The LUMC, front to back, top to bottom. Every department we’ve needed to access, from clinics to theatre to wards, from P to C to B etc etc. I can’t fault the care & am extremely grateful and slightly in awe of the level of specialism.
They just need to issue newcomers with a map…

Stichting Haarwensen and Monique at Comfort Haarwerken for helping with a wig and excellent soft hats from Hippemuts.nl to keep Millie warm and comfortable. Twiggy is a wonderful wig and the hats are amazing, inspired by a pair of tights oma thinks!

Rommen Bravenboer Photography Make up artist, for the wonderful photo shoot, the pleasure you gave Millie and the gorgeous pictures.

Gillian at Mark Hill’s salon for offering promt and excellent advice on how to organise a wig.

Jo at Shepperton wigs, for the creation of the amazing Aslana Twigofski! For discovering Skype consultations, remote measurements and recreating Millie’s hair with incredible accuracy.

Guy Parker-Rees, for responding so positively, allowing us to use his illustrations and making Millie the best get well card ever (see above!). I’ve never seen a 16 year old so excited! She was over the moon to have her own personal Gerald from her very much adored story book. Thank you, you made her day!

Martha Jane, my number one. You are amazing. Martha
I don’t know what we’d do without you. You nutty Disney girl! For all your hand holding, hugs, pragmatism, love, energy and support. We love you.

And of course the rest of the family, friends, colleagues. Everyone who has helped to make Aslana a reality for Millie so she can wear her lion’s mane!

I’ve read so many times in the past ‘you don’t have cancer alone’. You just never realise how many people you need until you need them. Then the response is frankly overwhelming.

We are very, very lucky.
